Sasha
Trosch

Marbling combines art and science: All of the ingredients”bath, mordant, paints, and tools” must be crafted and deployed with intention. Yet within and beyond that precision lives color, energy, flow, and emotion.

Marbling was the first art form that made me think, I want to do that. For the first several years of my practice, I was focused on conquering it: learning the “recipes” and getting it “right.‚” Over time, with the support of my mentors and family of fellow artists, I have learned to embrace the wonderful what-ifs that come from closing the instruction manual and following my creative instincts.

Marbling is an endangered art form. It is disappearing because many of the masters choose to keep their methods and techniques a secret. Through my body of work and my teaching practice, I aim to share the joy that marbling has brought me, with the hope that it will inspire others to carry on this treasured tradition.
