My style of painting is Contemporary Impressionism, adding whimsey, warmth and emotion, creating a playful mystery. I capture the essence of my subject rather than the exact form or detail of the figure or scene.Much of my work is oil on canvas, but I also enjoy up cycling old fence posts and creating colorful and whimsical garden pieces using acrylic paints.

Subject matter can be an agonizing process for me but once I arrive at my decision, I very loosely draw it out on the canvas and paint in the shapes favoring suggestion over precision.The artists who have inspired and influenced me the most are the Impressionists along with Modigliani, Hopper and Vettriano. My love for vintage clothing draws me to the latter three.

References with a hint of a narrative are what catches my eye. Maybe it’s the subjects gesture or movement or a landscape that suggests a mood suspended in time. My aim is to lift the spirit and create a connection with the viewer.
