Designing jewelry has been my intermittent side passion for more than 20 years. Whether working with torches and hammers or paintbrushes and glue, I continually wonder “Could I make jewelry out of that?” So people bring me funky pinecones and snakeskins, and I add them to my collection, anticipating the day this “future jewelry fodder” will work its way into my designs. I have a yummy collection of materials that include not only these natural materials but traditional art supplies and reclaimed copper and beads and mountains of ephemera.
I dream of tiny collage accessories featuring vintage newspaper ads, ledger entries, roadmaps, sheet music, and postage stamps. Currently I’m most often using watercolors to paint mini art pieces I turn into earrings.
When The Marshall Muse Gallery’s doors open in October, I’ll have my first public studio on the first floor where I will finally give myself permission to make more than a few pieces every month, and visitors can discover where my own muse will take me next.
