I create utilitarian pottery for everyday use as well as art pieces. My pottery is, for the most part, thrown on the wheel and glazed using food-safe glazes, or created through the Japanese technique of Raku, and the primitive practice of pit-firing‚ both of which are intended for display. I‚ am inspired by the lyrical and comforting curves and colors of nature as well as the Zen meandering of black and white sgrafitto designs. My experience as a painter informs the way I perceive both the kinship and tension between ceramic forms and the impact of color.
