I paint realistic figures within contemporary landscapes. My painting began with traditional portraiture that evolved into images meant to provoke tension in an otherwise calm portrayal. The work blends forgotten and ignored landscapes with the familiarity of the figure. A traditional oil palette provides rich shadows and crisp highlights. The majority of my landscapes are rural scenes, while my model references have been pulled from friends, family and our richly diverse community. I also paint still life and landscapes.
