My inspiration springs from the vibrant memories of my childhood in Eastern North Carolina, the captivating colors of Gullah art from Charleston, South Carolina, and the enchanting sounds of jazz legends like Jimmy Smith, John Coltrane, and Nancy Wilson, which sparked my dream of becoming a professional artist or dancer. As I enter my studio, I prepare my canvas, embracing the creative journey ahead. With watercolors, paper or canvas as my foundation, and smooth jazz, gospel, or R&B as my music, the artistic process unfolds.
Will my next piece capture the essence of a sun-kissed childhood day, playing outside and watching my mother hang clothes on the line, or perhaps the thrill of dancing with the Alvin Ailey Dancers? Through my artwork, I pour my heart and soul, expressing the beauty of dance, music, and childhood memories. As I let the melodies transport me, I envision the dynamic movement of lines, whimsical patterns, and bold colors that come alive in my paintings of joyful dancers, jazz scenes, and everyday Black Folk Art. My hope is that when viewers behold my work, they'll experience an uplifting moment that touches their heart.
