Stacy Fogleman - Stacy's Paintbrush

I have been working in watercolor for about 10 years. I have studied other paint and design mediums, but tend to return to watercolor. I do both realistic and abstract paintings.

About two years ago I started exploring the combination of watercolor with other media such as ink. I like the way it makes the details so much more pronounced. My pieces almost always reflect nature in some way. Whether it's the mountains, the ocean, or a sunset somewhere in between, my interpretation of nature's beauty is almost always front and center.

About a year and a half ago, I started weaving pieces of watercolor paper together. The technique actually occurred by accident when I became very frustrated by two different paintings. I kept thinking that I wished I could combine them, so I developed a way to do that. The pieces themselves require a lot of time and patience. They're very fragile and come apart easily until they're properly secured. The results have been very satisfying.

Description

Bubbles Up is one of my favorite pieces. “Bubbles Up” refers to bubbles under the water and how they always go up toward the surface. Painted on stretched watercolor canvas, the yellow section represents the sun as one might see it if they were under the water and looking up. I had a blast making this piece! The circles and the drips were great fun to create!
