Gail Kelly

I work primarily in two mediums: clay and leaded stained glass. I like the contrast of the two. The clay work is opaque and about color, form, pattern and content. The stained glass work is about nature through color, line and transparency.

I am inspired by the unexpected. What do I see, feel, think when the expected fails to arrive. When rhythm, patterns and cycles are interrupted. When confronted by exceptions or objects out of context a new perspective arrives. I try to be open to what is there: seeing beyond the norm and being open to associative meanings or images. I let them ramble through my subconscious to create work representative of that experience. I try to let go of rules, fears and conventions and follow a thread from past work to the unknown. Mistakes, cracks and flaws are kept for honesty. Work is about growth and change: a reflection of myself and often the small part of the world I find myself in.
