Description
This bowl is made entirely by pinching and stretching the clay in my hands. In the Buddhist tradition, alms bowls are carried by monks in their hands in which gifts of food are placed by others. These gifts are the monk’s sustenance for the day. This Offering Bowl is inspired by the alms bowl. I see it as a symbol of gifts freely given and gratefully received, with trust that we will receive what we need to sustain us and as an expression of gratitude. The bowl is fired in my electric kiln. The exterior is bare clay. The interior is glazed and is food safe. The clay is also sourced from Highwater Clay.
