Stacy Fogleman - Stacy's Paintbrush

I have been working in watercolor for about 10 years. I have studied other paint and design mediums, but tend to return to watercolor. I do both realistic and abstract paintings.

About two years ago I started exploring the combination of watercolor with other media such as ink. I like the way it makes the details so much more pronounced. My pieces almost always reflect nature in some way. Whether it's the mountains, the ocean, or a sunset somewhere in between, my interpretation of nature's beauty is almost always front and center.

About a year and a half ago, I started weaving pieces of watercolor paper together. The technique actually occurred by accident when I became very frustrated by two different paintings. I kept thinking that I wished I could combine them, so I developed a way to do that. The pieces themselves require a lot of time and patience. They're very fragile and come apart easily until they're properly secured. The results have been very satisfying.

Watercolor Collage

This piece ended up being a combination of several different paintings. I wasn’t happy with how they had turned out separately, so I started looking at them as a group to see if I could create something from what had already been created.

As the title conveys, I see this piece as a sunrise over the water. I was inspired by some photos from a trip to Florida. The woven pieces were added to give the piece texture and movement. They also helped incorporate each of the paintings with each other.
