Into the Storm

Brownlee is an abstract artist in Greensboro, whose work explores abstract and coastal images by layering oil paint and cold wax, then scraping back, revealing colors and images. As a medical social worker, Brownlee was inspired by older adults who began to paint late in life, appreciating the uniqueness of each individual’s work. She enjoys following where the painting leads, especially in her abstract pieces which she finds unique, surprising and beautiful in their own way. Often having an expectation of how the painting will be, she often finds that it reveals itself to her, often leading her to a very different place.

Brownlee Bryant

I am a social worker and an artist. As a social worker, I have appreciated the uniqueness of every individual I have worked with. I appreciate and accept differences in people, and find beauty in that, accepting that every individual is unique and beautiful in their own way.

I began working as an abstract artist, understanding that each of my pieces is unique, surprising and beautiful in it's own way. I often have an expectation of how the painting will be, only to find that it reveals itself to me, often leading me to a very different place. I find this exciting and satisfying, and I accept the path my art takes me. In this acceptance I find a connection between my social work practice and my art.
