Emily Myrick

Artists Statement:

When I was 10 years old, I discovered the art of painting.

My grandmother, father and sister influenced me by filling our home with their paintings. I followed this passion and earned a BFA from UNC-Greensboro. I am a mixed media artist.

In2009, I began creating collages by transforming dried paint skins into ways of working that are not traditionally used. I like the challenge of trying new techniques.

I do my work out of a necessity to create……Almost like a calling. My intentions are to share and connect with the viewer.

What I like most about my approach to painting is that it is like putting together a puzzle. My work is non-objective which allows the mind to flow. This became my drive and desire, my seek and find.

As I continue to create, I hope to entice the viewer to look deeper into my paintings….not just a passing glance. Discovery is something’s that brings satisfaction and enjoyment which I strive for in each work of art.
