Dottie is a native of Cleveland Ohio. She has a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Miami University in Oxford Ohio and an MBA from UNCG. Mostly due to time spent as a US Navy wife, she has lived several places, including Washington, DC, San Clemente, CA; Ponce, Puerto Rico; Bethesda, MD; Charleston, SC and Sardinia Italy. Since 1977, Greensboro has been her home.
While raising her children, and pursuing a technical career in Winston-Salem, she fed her soul through craft projects, especially sewing and needlecrafts.
After retiring and meeting Alexis Lavine in Greensboro at an Art Stock event, she began watercolor classes and fell in love with this entirely new pursuit. A certified workshop junkie, she has studied also with Linda Baker, Soon Y Warren, Ted Nuttall and others. Dottie is especially intrigued by the transparency of the medium and by how significantly it changes the way she sees the world. She is still searching for her “artistic voice” and loves exploring various techniques and surfaces as she learns to express her inner artist through watercolor painting.
Her adult children and grandchildren are far flung, now living in Hawaii and Amsterdam. Her extensive travels to see family or to see the world introduce her to exotic places and cultures and provide inspiration for her paintings.
When not traveling or painting, you might find her volunteering with her church or a local non profit, attending concerts, plays and art shows, or perhaps, playing Mah Jongg with friends.
Your comments about her work are most welcome.Contract information for Dottie Blanchard:
