I started painting on our backyard fence a few years ago for fun and as a stress release from my job as a physician. I have a MFA that I haven't used in many years, and my husband had been bugging me to do creative things since medical school. I picked up my old Rembrandt pastels left over from the 80’s to use on the fence, because there weren’t enough colors in the sidewalk chalk box! Through this, I rediscovered the joy of working in pastels. I still draw on wood, but as I’ve refined my style, I’ve returned to paper. I like to paint things that one can find in the backyard, on a walk through a park or in the country. The Virginia countryside is particularly inspiring.
